AFChelps.ca

The AFC is the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry. Through compassionate and confidential support, we help Canadian entertainment professionals maintain their health, dignity and ability to work. The AFC is an expression of the community’s good will, helping entertainment professionals when they are at their most vulnerable due to injury, illness or other personal hardship. The AFC distributes over $500,000 each year in emergency financial aid to help entertainment professionals working in all aspects of film & TV, music, theatre and dance. In a sector in which employment can be unpredictable, it’s good to know that a caring community has your back.

How to Help Those in Need

If you work with people who may be in financial need due to a recent injury, illness, or other emergency, one of the best ways you can help is to let them know about The AFC. Here is some information about our services that may help you when discussing The AFC with people in need. Helping people in times of need is what we do, so thank you for helping us to help those in need in our community.

What does AFC do?

· Provide short-term support (usually about one month or minimum payment)

· Help with immediate costs (due very soon or recently overdue) that otherwise could not be paid

· Help with basic costs of living, or emergency medical or dental needs

What doesn't AFC do?

· Provide loans; all aid is given as charitable assistance

· Provide loans; all aid is given as charitable assistance

· Provide assistance with debt payments, income taxes, or educational costs (see our application form for more information about what kind of assistance we can provide)

· Provide ongoing, recurrent, or long-term support, or top up income during unemployment

How it works:

· Fill out a form with information about the emergency, employment, and financial details

· Mail, fax, or e-mail it to us with documents that confirm the situation (see AFChelps.ca for examples)

· The AFC’s Board of Directors will review the request and decide if and how we can help

· If assistance is approved, we will provide cheques made out directly to creditors
