Canadian Drama 'Saving Hope' Secures Foreign Sales Post-NBC

October 2, 2012 - The Hollywood Reporter

After NBC took the Canadian medical drama Saving Hope off its schedule, Entertainment One has gone abroad for more broadcast partners to back a second season.

Ahead of Mipcom, additional deals have been signed with DirecTV in Latin America, Globosat in Brazil, Zon in Portugal, D-Smart in Turkey, La7 in Italy, EUFORIA TV in Romania, Domashny in Russia and Sony SET Channel in Africa.

The Erica Durance and Michaels Shanks-starring hour-long drama has already been given a second-season order by CTV, even as Saving Hope struggled to make a splash in the ratings for NBC.

The first season became Canada’s top-rated new summer series with an average audience of 1.7 million viewers.

The on-ongoing life of the Canadian drama is typical of many in recent years that go onto successive seasons, just not on U.S. network TV, as American broadcasters initially pay a modest license fee that Canadian producers can offset with additional foreign sales.

Saving Hope is produced by Ilana C Frank Films, with Entertainment One.

The series is executive produced by Ilana Frank, David Wellington, John Morayniss, Lesley Harrison and showrunners Morwyn Brebner and Aaron Martin.

Saving Hope was created by Malcolm MacRury and Brebner.
