Orphan Black Sets March Premiere Date

We’ve known Orphan Black will focus on a mysterious cloning project for a while, now. BBC America’s upcoming original series seems a little dark, but it also seems to be a suitable segue for a network that already airs the science fiction drama with the humorous bent, Doctor Who, as well as the grimmer Ripper Street. We won’t have much longer to wait to see if Orphan Black will be able to find a niche in the network’s lineup. The studio announced today that the series will premiere on March 30.
The program stars Tatiana Maslany as Sarah, a young woman who sees another woman committing suicide—a woman who happens to look just like her. Sarah takes on the identity of the woman who commits suicide, but this clearly will lead to further complications and discoveries. If you’ve seen the network’s first teaser for the series, you’ll know that Sarah doesn’t seem to be the only clone on the market.
Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett says the series will be both thrilling and the type of program that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
“It’s a thrill ride with no shortage of hooks; the ‘how is she going to get out of this?’ question will be answered by Sarah invariably not getting ‘out’, but going deeper.”
Sometimes science fiction programming can be a tough sell, but hopefully Orphan Black will benefit from its timeslot. The series will be part of BBC America’s new “Supernatural Saturday” lineup, which will also include the aforementioned Doctor Who, as well as Chris Hardwicke’s sort-of new series, The Nerdist. Beginning on March 30, Orphan Black will occupy the 9 p.m. ET timeslot on Saturdays.
