Kids in the Hall reunite

July 19th, 2013 - Toronto Star

Beloved Canadian comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall reunited on Friday to tape an episode of Spun Out, an upcoming CTV comedy starring group member Dave Foley.

However, Foley — who plays the boss of a public relations firm in the new show — had doubts that fellow “Kids” Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson would stick to the script.

“The Kids in the Hall are never just going to just show up and read what’s written. That’s just not in or DNA,” said Foley, who also starred in the ’90s TV show NewsRadio.

“Even when we were doing our own material, noone sticks to it. I warned everyone what it’d be like.”

The Kids in the Hall aired from 1988 to 1994. McKinney reflected on that period Friday during a break in taping.

“We were the only show on in Canada a decade ago,” he said. “TV started at 7 p.m., ended at 8 p.m., and then The National came on at 10 p.m., and then it went off again. Then they played the national anthem, and then there was Kids In The Hall.”

“Which is why we always had to give sports scores, in the middle of our shows,” cracked Foley.

The five appeared together in 2010 for their miniseries Death Comes to Town.

Spun Out is set to air on CTV in 2014.

The group hinted they have things in the pipeline, and they are “in talks.”

“Stay tuned,” said McKinney.
