Weekly Update from Film Ontario, June 27, 2014
The swearing in of Premier Wynne and her new Cabinet was a terrific afternoon. They enjoyed a standing ovation (a really loooong one!) from the packed House.
We have a new Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport and PanAm Games: Michael Coteau. He is a Toronto MPP and had recently been a Parliamentary Assistant to Minister Chan. You can read his bio here. The Chief of Staff, Christine Innes remains in her post for the time being, which is good news.
And the new Secretary of Cabinet (the most powerful civil servant in Ontario) is Steve Orsini (formerly Deputy Minister, Finance). He knows our file well, from years of working together closely on the tax credit file.
The Throne Speech will be presented July 2nd. Budget day could be as early as July 10th.
As you know from our emails this week, we have been working actively, along with our colleagues at CMPA, OMDC and Ministry of Culture, to respond to last Friday's changes to the TFWP (Temporary Foreign Worker Program), to seek an exemption.
Once again, a reminder that on July 1st there are new Health and Safety regs in Ontario. Everyone who works in the province needs to complete the online test. This is for every job - Executive Producer to PA to actor (show) and President to receptionist (company) - and applies to non- residents as well.
It takes about 45 minutes to complete the online course and receive your certificate. www.Ontario.ca/LearnToWorkSafe Wishing you all a wonderful Canada Day!
