Happy Friday everyone,

Louisiana has a new film commissioner who says he will concentrate on removing the state's recently-instituted cap on production tax credits. As detailed in the Atlanta Business Journal below, Robert Vosbein says his first order of business will be to try and recover some of the production business Louisiana is losing to Georgia.

Netflix and its digital contemporaries have already started to dominate the race for Emmy awards; could the Oscars be next? Netflix's feature Beast of No Nations debuted at TIFF to rave reviews and the Hollywood Reporter this week predicted the streaming company may soon be shaking up the Academy podium.

The new golden age of television, which some say was ushered in by Netflix, was a topic of discussion at TIFF this year. As reported by Reuters below, festival officials said the inclusion of TV shows reflected the "growing convergence and artistic equality between television and cinema."

Finally this week, another story out of TIFF concerns the growth of the Chinese film market. As detailed in Variety below, founder-producer of Lavabear, David Linde, said at a Toronto panel session Tuesday that China is essentially "leapfrogging over the West” in terms of film and TV innovation.
