February Update from FilmOntario, February 27, 2017

City of Toronto Sets a New Record for Screen-Based Production
This morning Toronto Mayor John Tory revealed that the City of Toronto hit a new milestone in screen-based production in 2016, with just over $2 billion of production in film, television and digital media production. This includes production activity in film, television, commercials and animation and special effects.

A full breakdown of the numbers can be found on the City of Toronto’s website. We would like to congratulate our partners at the City on this impressive milestone, and thank all of our government partners, including the Province of Ontario, for their ongoing support of the industry.

Urban Post Acquires Fearless Post
On February 23 FilmOntario member Urban Post announced that they had acquired the Fearless Film and Video Corporation, aka Fearless Post, which has been one of Toronto’s leading video post-production facilities. In addition, they announced that their unique 800 square foot 4K colour correction and screening facility is now officially open!

Congratulations to Urban Post and remember, it’s always better to do business with a fellow FilmOntario member!

AFC Launches a new PSA The AFC is pleased to announce a Public Service Announcement on The AFC – the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry - is now airing on CBC TV and CBC.ca. The 60-second spot, which showcases how even the most celebrated performers and technicians can find themselves needing help after an unforeseen event upends their lives, can also be viewed here.

The PSA would not have been possible without the amazing generosity of the CBC, who provided the talent and resources to shoot and produce the video, and donated valuable airtime to let Canadians know about the important work The AFC does. The AFC would also like to thank Mirvish Productions, the National Ballet of Canada, the Royal Conservatory of Music, Frantic Films and IATSE for their generous assistance in the production of the PSA, and all the performers and technicians who graciously donated their time and talent. To learn more about the PSA or The AFC, please visit AFChelps.ca.

The first OMDC Film Fund deadline is Thursday, April 6, 2017. This fund is intended to increase the level of domestic feature film production in Ontario. This program provides support to Ontario producers for feature film projects in the final stages of development and production financing.

Deadlines for the OMDC IDM Fund have also been announced. The first deadline for the Concept Definition program, which supports early-stage activities, and the Production program, which supports the creation of market-ready projects is April 10, 2017. The Marketing Support program accepts applications all year round but has a final deadline of January 31, 2018.

Coming Soon: Member Survey
