April 24 FilmOntario Update

Provincial Budget This Week
As most of you know, the Provincial Budget will be announced this Thursday, April 27. In our Budget submission, FilmOntario stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the provincial Tax Credit rates. We also noted the importance of modernizing and streamlining the Credits, which we will continue to work on with Minister McMahon’s Film and Television Advisory Panel, stable funding for the OMDC and NOHFC, and public support for investment in film and television infrastructure.

We are not anticipating any major announcements in the Budget. However, I will be attending the Budget lock-up and the Budget speech at the Legislature, and will provide an update to members on Thursday night.

OMDC Call for Applications – International Financing Forum at TIFF
The International Financing Forum (IFF) is OMDC’s feature film co-financing and co-production event at the Toronto International Film Festival for indepdendent producers and industry executives developing and financing English language projects for the world market. Selected international and Canadian producers are brought together with international sales agents, US distributors, equity financiers, agents and executive producers for brokered meetings and exclusive networking opportunities.

Applications for IFF are now being accepted, until June 14, 2017. For full eligibility and application requirements, please see the OMDC website.

Still Coming Soon: Member Survey
As you will recall from the AGM (and I have been promising all year), in 2017 we are planning to survey members on employment and other economic indicators, in order to support FilmOntario’s ongoing work in improving industry data that is being done in conjunction with the Minister’s Advisory Panel on Film and Television. Watch your inboxes for this important survey – and please fill it out when you get it! We can’t do this work without your help.
