February 20 FilmOntario Update

UPDATE
February 20, 2018

Ontario Legislature Resumes Sitting Today
Provincial politicians are back at Queen’s Park today for what is sure to be a lively final session before the June 7 provincial election. As you may know, during the break there was a Cabinet shuffle and a new Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, the Honourable Daiene Vernile, was appointed. We look forward to working with Minister Vernile and wish Minister McMahon all the best in her new position as President of Treasury Board.

2018 Provincial Budget Consultations
FilmOntario has been participating in consultations leading up to the 2018 Provincial Budget. The key points that we have been highlighting are:

  • the need for stable and effective tax credits, including improving processing times and modernizing the credits in order to maintain Ontario’s position as a competitive jurisdiction for screen-based content creation;
  • the need to invest in studio infrastructure;
  • and the need to make targeted investments in domestic content creation.

In addition to participating in a consultation organized by the Minister of Finance, we also made written submissions to both the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. A copy of the written submission can be found here.
