Congratulations to all the Ontario Oscar Winners!
Great to see so many Ontario individuals and companies be honoured throughout this year’s Awards season, and particularly at last night’s Oscar Awards.
Congratulations to all who received nominations for The Breadwinner and Molly’s Game and especially to everyone involved with The Shape of Water, produced by Miles Dale which received 13 nominations and won Best Picture, Best Director for Guillermo del Toro, Best Original Score for Alexandre Desplat and Best Production Design for the Toronto team of of Paul Denham Austerberry, Shane Vieau and Jeff Melvin.
And good luck to all the Ontario nominees up for Canadian Screen Awards this week!
Cinespace Expansion
Congratulations as well to FilmOntario member Cinespace, who announced on Friday that they will be opening a new, 165,000 square foot studio space in the Port Lands. Our studio report, released in November, highlighted the number of production dollars and jobs that were going elsewhere due to a lack of production space, so this is great news for the City of Toronto. We look forward to seeing all the great shows that come out of this facility!
Thanks to Mayor John Tory and Councillor Paula Fletcher for their continued support of the industry.
