November 27 FilmOntario Update

Update
November 27, 2018

Thank You for Another Successful AGM!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2018 FilmOntario Annual General Meeting, held at the Four Seasons Toronto on November 21. It was great to review the year’s accomplishments and to welcome Jim Mirkopoulos, of Cinespace, to the FilmOntario Board. We would like to extend our thanks to Frank Siracusa, who will be leaving the Board at the end of this year. The Board also took time during the meeting to acknowledge the contributions of Jonathan Barker, who passed away in July 2018.

The Honourable Vic Fedeli, Minister of Finance, was warmly received as this year’s guest speaker. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing stability and support for the film and TV industry, and highlighted some recent sector successes, particularly in Northern Ontario. We were also joined by Parliamentary Assistant for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Vincent Ke, MPP for Mississauga-Malton Deepak Anand, and City of Toronto Councillor Paula Fletcher.

Thanks to ACTRA Toronto member Art Hindle for introducing our guest speaker.

Representative in Los Angeles - Deadline Extended

Just a reminder that Ontario Creates is currently looking to fill the role of a representative in Los Angeles to promote Ontario’s screen-based industries. A Request for Bids (RFB) for a Marketing Vendor has been posted on the Ontario Tenders Portal, with a new deadline of November 30, 2018.

If you are interested in seeing the full RFB, you must register through the portal. Questions about the RFB and the process must be directed to the procurement advisor, Amy Hung (Amy.Hung@ontario.ca).

Reminder - Canadian Expat Summit at the Toronto Global

Forum For the second year, the Toronto Global Forum is hosting a Canadian Expat Summit from December 10 to 12 at the Fairmont Royal York. This year’s Summit is built around eight sector-specific business roundtables with 30 to 40 participants each. These moderated roundtables will serve as an opportunity for Expat Leaders to discuss their personal experience and share best practices for working in a global business environment. Participants will have the chance to ask questions in a conversation-style format on ways they can grow their business and pursue careers beyond Canada’s borders.

They will be holding a business roundtable focused on Doing Business in California for the media and creative industries on Wednesday, December 12 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Fred Fuchs, Executive Producer of Riverside Entertainment, will be moderating the roundtable.

Domestic companies who are export-ready or have an interest in investing in operations abroad are invited to participate in these roundtables. Participation in the roundtable would also provide special access to the rest of the activities over the three days of the Summit and the Toronto Global Forum. For more information on the Forum itself, you can visit: https://forum-americas.org/toronto/home/

If you are interested in participating in this opportunity, or would like more information, please contact me directly.
