July 9 FilmOntario Update

Department of Canadian Heritage Survey on Service Production

You may have received an email from CAVCO recently about the launch of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s (DCH) online survey regarding foreign location and service production. The survey is intended for all companies involved in film and television production (not just those doing service work) and will be used to measure the impact of service production on the overall ecosystem.

We encourage you to have your say here. The survey takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and will be open until Friday, July 12.

2019 Fam Tour Dinner – Waitlist Available

Thank you for the enthusiastic response to our 2019 Fam Tour Dinner on July 17th. Due to overwhelming demand, the dinner is now full, although a waiting list is available. If you are interested in being added to the waiting list, please contact me. Spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and we can accommodate one attendee per member company.

Two New Deadlines

Ontario Creates will be supporting one Ontario screenwriter to attend the eQuinoxe Europe International Screenwriter Workshop. Ontario writers with a script attached to an Ontario production company can apply. One Ontario participant/production will be selected, and Ontario Creates will provide limited travel support for the producer to attend the end of the workshop. The workshop deals specifically with screenplays for the cinema and concentrates on script and project development. Screenplays should be at an advanced stage of development, preferably no less than third draft, in order to maximize the one-to-one meetings with advisors.

More information on the workshop can be found here, and applications should be submitted directly to eQuinoxe before July 31, 2019.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and DHX Media have announced the launch of a new program to support the development of Canadian kids’ and family content. The DHX-CMF Kids and Family Development Program, which is funded by DHX Media at over $1.4M for two years and administered by the CMF, aims to support new entrants to the production community as well as regional projects, creators in official language minority communities, and French-language producers. Half of the program’s funds are reserved for women-led projects.

Click here to access the guidelines; applications can be submitted immediately and will be accepted until November 1, 2019.
