March 16 FilmOntario Update

COVID-19

 At FilmOntario we are aware that all industry players are monitoring the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation closely. We would like to thank our members for the information you have shared with us and within your own organizations, and for the actions you have taken to limit the spread of this illness to date. We will continue to work with our industry and government partners to monitor ongoing developments and will provide updates if necessary.

 FilmOntario has asked Minister MacLeod to ensure that any support to workers in response to this pandemic take into account the needs of our industry, and specifically that supports do not exclude those who work as independent contractors or through loan-out corporations.

You can read the full letter here. If you have any questions or information to share, please do not hesitate to email me or call at 416-906-5408.

Updates to Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit Program Guidelines

The Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office has published updated guidelines, effective immediately, for the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC) program.

The primary objectives of the update were to:

- integrate information from CAVCO public notices issued since 2010;

- reflect amendments to the Income Tax Regulations in 2014 and 2016;

- make minor changes to administrative requirements;

-  provide additional clarifications on CAVCO’s administration of program requirements; and

- make wording changes, or reorder information, to improve the clarity and flow of the document.

 The updated CPTC guidelines can be found on CAVCO’s website.
