Important Office Updates - May 29, 2020

Please see the following important updates regarding the NABET 700-M UNIFOR offices. 

Office Closure Extension

As the Government of Ontario has extended the State of Emergency, the Union will also be extending the office closure date, with the intent to return on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. 

Staff Layoff Notice 

Due to the global pandemic and subsequently the state of Emergency, our industry amongst others have witnessed an immediate stoppage in the ability to conduct business as we previously were used to. As a result, the Union made the difficult decision to layoff a number of the office staff to address operational costs during this challenging time. As all non-managerial staff members are unionized, a number of necessary steps were required, in accordance with their collective agreement, to take place before layoffs could be concluded. As of June 1, 2020, all staff members who received layoff notices will be officially laid off. 

The staff members remaining will continue to work remotely from home and will be responsible for ensuring all email/voice mail inquiries received are addressed. Due to this new shortage in office staff, please continue to be patient with responses and turnaround time.

June 2020 General Meeting - Cancellation Notice
Please note that the previously scheduled June 7, 2020 General Meeting is cancelled. Once we return to the office and assess the situation and restrictions in relation to COVID-19 and social distancing, we will notify the Membership of the new General Meeting date in accordance with the by-laws. 

Further to the numerous updates sent out by the Local, your President, Peggy Kyriakidou, would like to hold a Zoom Town Hall to update and report on COVID-19 related information that you should be aware of. It’s important to note that no Union business will be conducted on this online platform. We hope to schedule and conduct this Town Hall next month, in June 2020. Further communication about the Town Hall, and how inquiries you may have will be addressed, will be provided to the Membership at a later date. 

Third Quarter Mailer

We would like to inform you that the third quarter mailer that typically goes out at the end of May, which includes invoices for your dues and benefits (if applicable), will be postponed and mailed out mid-June. The deadline to pay for first and second quarter benefits will remain on June 29, 2020. We will be accepting payment by cheque and money order by mail, and by credit card, over the phone, which must be called into the office to Nicole Matthews on Thursday’s between 10am - 2pm.
