December 26 FilmOntario Update

New Lockdown Measures

The government of Ontario has announced new lockdown measures effective December 26, 2020 at 12:01 am. The government press release is here.

There are also new restrictions placed on businesses that have been allowed to continue to operate while in lockdown, including film and television. Productions are now limited to a maximum of ten (10) performers on set. This limit does not include crew. You can find the full set of guidelines here.

Postproduction, visual effects and animation studios are not affected by these changes. These restrictions will be in place for 28 days in Southern Ontario and 14 days in Northern Ontario (Sudbury and north). The impact of these measures will be re-evaluated throughout the lockdown periods.

The City of Toronto has confirmed that they will continue to issue film permits under these new conditions.

The fact that we are able to continue working, albeit with additional restrictions, is a testament to the hard work all of you have been doing to implement and uphold world-class health and safety standards on set. Thank you for all the work that have done to keep the industry working.

Minister MacLeod will be hosting a cross-sectoral Town Hall tomorrow at 11:00 am to provide more detailed technical information and answer questions. You can register for the Town Hall here; note that registration closes at 9:30 am.
