April 7 FilmOntario Update
Filming Permitted Under Stay-at-Home OrderToday the Premier announced that the government is declaring a state of emergency, and issuing a stay-at-home order, 12:01 am on Thursday, April 8 (i.e., midnight tonight). The government’s press release can be found here. Government officials have confirmed that there are no changes for the film and television industry.
This means that film and television production is permitted to continue with a 50-performer limit on set. Productions must also continue to follow all other health and safety measures, including those outlined in the Section 21 Guidelines.
The government has indicated that enforcement of workplace health and safety measures will be enhanced during this period. This means that there will be increased workplace inspections, particularly in regions considered hotspots (including Halton, Peel, Toronto and York). All industry workplaces, including sets, should be sure to have their health and safety protocols in writing and available for viewing by inspectors and, of course, to be continuing to follow those protocols.
It is because of our industry’s commitment to working together on health and safety that we can continue to operate during this time. Please continue to follow all public guidelines and stay safe!
