Ontario Stay-at-Home Order

Premier Ford announced today that another stay at home order will come into effect in the Province as of 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, April 8, 2021, and is currently expected to last for a period of 4 weeks.

This new stay at home order is very similar to that which was enacted by the Province in mid-January 2021. Given the vast majority of the work as a film Technician cannot be performed from home, and in conjunction with the health and safety measures in place on productions, film and television activities are permitted to continue in the Province during this period. As outlined in last week’s correspondence, the Province has reverted back to a cap of 50 performers on set until such time as the applicable region returns to a colour coded re-opening stage.

Please also note, the Province has made it clear that the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) will be conducting workplace inspections to ensure protocols and policies are in place and are being adhered to in those workplaces where work is able to continue. While there is no specific reference to film and television production being the focus of any of these inspections, it is safe to assume that as filming is often taking place in the public eye, there is high probability that a MLTSD inspector could appear on a set at some point. As such, we would like to remind everyone that compliance with production’s COVID-19 protocols, including PPE use, sanitization and distancing, is imperative.
