May 31 FilmOntario Update

Ontario Releases Roadmap to Reopening

Last week the province announced its plan for reopening as COVID-19 case counts continue to decline and more people receive their vaccines.

The government expects to enter Step One of the re-opening plan during the week of June 14. During Step One, the 50-performer limit on set will remain in place for the film and television industry, along with the other regulatory requirements (including following the Section 21 guidelines) that we have become accustomed to over the past months.

Provided that health indicators continue to improve, the Province anticipates that each re-opening Step will last for 21 days. When we move into Step 2, the 50-performer limit on set will be lifted, although other health and safety measures will continue to be required.

For a more complete summary of the government’s plans, you can find the backgrounder here. We will continue to keep you up to date as regulations are finalized and/or if any of the plans change.

AFC’s Big Swing 2021 Golf Tournament

The 25th Anniversary Big Swing Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Sunday, August 22, 2021 on the Legends Course of the beautiful Lionhead Golf Club and Conference Centre in Brampton.

They are hoping to have an 8:00 am shotgun start, subject to COVID restrictions. If a shotgun start is not possible, they will revert to a tee time format, as in 2020. A full schedule will be released closer to the date of the tournament. Big Swing 2021 will adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines and be set up to ensure that all golfers have a fun and safe day on the course.

The Big Swing Tournament is co-presented by The AFC and DGC Ontario. Your participation in the tournament helps raise much-needed funds to support entertainment industry professionals going through tough times.

The golfer registration fee for Big Swing 2021 is $225/golfer and includes 5 raffle tickets (additional raffle tickets can be purchased here), 1 Putting Contest ticket, and 1 Pot of Gold ticket. Space is limited, so please register early to secure your spot!

Northern Ontario FAM Tour

Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) is seeking film and television producers interested in participating in the spring 2021 edition of the Northern Ontario Familiarization (FAM) Tour.

The application process opens on Monday, May 17 and closes on Monday, June 7.

The tour will begin in the early summer of 2021, subject to public health and travel guidelines. With travel and accommodations covered by CION, producers will be given an opportunity to spend a maximum of three days on location in the Northern Ontario municipality of their choice (dates to be determined pending individual agendas and schedules). All COVID-19 protocols will be in effect and practiced throughout the tour.
