July 14 FilmOntario Update

Ontario Moving to Step 3 of Reopening

Last week the government announced that Ontario will be moving into Step 3 of reopening as of 12:01 am this Friday, July 16th. This is great news and is due to the fact that the province continues to see improvements in case counts, hospital numbers, and vaccination rates. Thank you to everyone who has done their part.

The significant change for film and television is that studio audiences, subject to capacity limits, are now permitted; other restrictions – including adherence to Section 21 guidelines – remain in place. Movie theatres will also be re-opening, with capacity limits.

You can find the complete regulation here.

Rapid Antigen Testing Program - Toronto Board of Trade Kits Now Available

A reminder that the province of Ontario is making free rapid antigen testing kits available to companies, including film and television companies, through the Provincial Antigen Screening Program. The government portal at this site is the ideal registration method for film and television companies.

The City of Toronto has recently partnered with the Toronto Region Board of Trade to provide free COVID-19 rapid screening kits to small- and medium-sized businesses of 150 or fewer employees. Eligible businesses can visit bot.com/rapidscreening to order an initial four-week supply of testing kits and book a time slot for pickup at a designated location.

If you have questions about these programs, please contact the Film Commission at Ontario Creates or the City of Toronto Film Office.

Upcoming Ontario Green Screen Training

There are two upcoming Ontario Green Screen Training sessions, offered free of charge to all industry members:

July 15, (6 – 9 pm) - Climate & Sustainable Production Training provides participants with the tools needed to understand the impact of climate change and provides information on how to make productions greener while saving money.

July 22, (6 – 7 pm) Carbon Calculator Training provides information on how to streamline the process of inputting and collecting data needed to calculate carbon impact.

Additional sessions will be offered throughout the summer and fall; dates and times will be posted on the Ontario Green Screen website.
