November 15 FilmOntario Update

Save the Date – AGM December 2, 2021

Mark your calendars for the 2021 FilmOntario AGM on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 4 pm.

The AGM is open to all members in good standing. Once again this year we will be holding the AGM virtually.

Check your inboxes later this week for registration information. Guest speaker announcements coming soon!

Reminder – Filming is Good Business Campaign

Do you have a favourite coffee shop or restaurant that kept your crew fed? A local hardware store that you couldn’t have finished building your sets without?
Just a reminder that we are working on a social media campaign that will highlight the impact that the film and television industry has on small businesses throughout the province. If you have a favourite location or business that you think should be highlighted in this campaign, please let me know!

We are looking for testimonials, photos, or short videos that can help us show off everything the province has to offer. We will use the material on our Twitter feed, and eventually it will feed into our year-end video. In addition to productions, we are also working with regions and municipalities across the province to identify popular locations and businesses.

Looking forward to hearing from members about the best places for the film business in Ontario!

Ontario Creates Film Fund Final 2021-22 Deadlines

The final deadline for the Ontario Creates Film Fund Production Stream this fiscal year is this Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 5 pm. The Film Fund is intended to increase the level of domestic feature film production in Ontario and provides support to Ontario producers for feature film projects in the final stages of production financing.

The Fund supports a range of projects across genres with both industrial and cultural benefits. Ontario Creates measures the results of the Fund primarily based on net benefit from the proposed project to the province which includes but is not limited to return on investment and jobs created in the Ontario film industry. Guidelines for the program can be found here.

The Development Stream is intended to support development activities that lead to the production of domestic feature film in Ontario. The Film Fund provides support to Ontario producers for all stages of development activities. Applications for the Development Stream are accepted on a continuous basis, until the closing date which is November 30, 2021 at 5 pm. Development guidelines can be found here.

Telefilm Updates

Telefilm has announced its Production Program details for the 2022-2023 funding year. Depending on the production budget and type of project, application dates begin as soon as January 4, 2022.

There are a number of changes for the new funding year so potential applicants should be sure to read both the Guidelines and the Essential Information Guide when preparing your application. All information related to the program can be found here.

In case you missed it, Telefilm has also relaunched the Talent to Watch program with some updates to its guidelines, including increases to both the amount of assistance available and the maximum allowable budgets. The program will be accepting applications between April 19 and May 3, 2022. Full guidelines can be found here.

And just a reminder that Telefilm provides support for international marketing activities throughout the year.

Reminder - Take the OGS Hybrid / Electric Vehicle Pledge!

Hybrid and electric vehicles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions (compared to gasoline-fueled vehicles) by up to 90 percent. Ontario productions want to use hybrid and electric vehicles but they are hard to find in local rental fleets. If rental companies are aware that our industry is committed to moving towards more sustainable transportation options, they will increase those numbers.

To help move the industry towards cleaner transportation solutions, Ontario Green Screen has launched the Electric / Hybrid Vehicle Pledge. Producers, transport captains, and all those responsible for co-ordinating transportation are encouraged to take the pledge. Signing the pledge shows that you are committed to introducing hybrid and/or electric vehicles into production whenever possible. Over the next few months, information collected from this pledge will be aggregated and used to inform rental car companies of the current demand for electric vehicles in Ontario.

Ready to act? Sign the pledge today!
