June 1 FilmOntario Update

The Polls Are Now Open!

It’s election day in Ontario! If you haven’t already done so, make sure you get out to vote before the polls close at 9pm today.

You should have received your voting location on your voters’ card. If you have misplaced or didn’t receive a card, everything you need to vote is on the Elections Ontario website. The website also tella you what ID you need to bring with you.

If you are not registered – you can still vote! Look up your voting location, and the election workers there will hep you register on the spot. And just a reminder that you can see all the parties' platforms, and recordings of our Election Town Halls, on the FilmOntario website.

OGS Summer Community Meeting

FilmOntario is proud to be a founding member of Ontario Green Screen (OGS). OGS hosts quarterly community meetings to communicate program updates, share stories and best practices, and build community. Community meetings are hosted on Zoom, and we invite all interested individuals to attend.

The next meeting is schedule for Monday, June 20, 2022 at 7pm.

At this meeting we’ll be promoting clean energy solutions as well as sharing updates on OGS initiatives. Please join us to learn more about our newest resources that aim to help productions access clean power using grid tie-ins.

City of Toronto Program Manager – Film Sector Development

The City of Toronto Film Office is currently hiring for the position of Program Manager – Film Sector Development.

Reporting to the Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries, this position accelerates the growth of the film and television production industry in Toronto by innovating and executing programs, strategies or other initiatives for workforce and infrastructure development, marketing, customer service enhancements, and other supports that advance Toronto as a top global jurisdiction for production.

In this position, the successful candidate will develop stakeholder partnerships, and leverage the unique strengths of City government, to increase production volume and contribute to achieving the Division's strategic goals.

Northern Ontario Crew Portal

CION has launched a Workforce Development web portal – a one-stop shop for film and television production crew development in Northern Ontario.

As part of the portal, crew members are invited to enter themselves in the online crew database, which contains 1057 crew members who have worked on more than 2500 productions. Producers are encouraged to visit the database when crewing your next northern production.

Industry Deadlines

June 13 – Applications are now open for the Ontario Creates International Financing Forum (iff) at TIFF 2022. During this event, selected international and Canadian producers are brought together with international sales agents, US distributors, agents, equity financiers and executive producers for brokered meetings and exclusive networking opportunities.

July 14 – Next deadline for the Ontario Creates Film Fund – Production. The Film Fund provides support to Ontario producers for feature film projects in the final stages of production financing. The Fund is intended to increase the level of domestic film production in Ontario. Information sessions (registration required) will be offered on June 15 and 22.

November 30 – Applications for the Ontario Creates Film Fund – Development will be accepted on a continuous basis until this date. This program is intended to support development activities that lead to the increase of domestic feature film production in Ontario, for all stages of development activities.
